About Geshe Lungtok Tenzin Gelek
Geshe Lungtok Tenzin Gelek is a dedicated practitioner and teacher of the ancient Bon religious tradition. Since the age of seven, he has spent most of his life at Menri Monastery, where he devoted himself to the study, practice, and preservation of Bon teachings.
Under the guidance of His Holiness the 33rd Menri Trizin, Lungtok Tenpai Nyima Rinpoche, Geshe la mastered the traditional Menri style of chanting and was later appointed Tsok Chen Um Zed (Chant Master). In this respected role, he led the monks in proper tone, rhythm, and pronunciation according to the Menri tradition, serving for three years.
Geshe la also received teachings in Cham, the sacred ritual dance tradition of Bon, directly from His Holiness the 33rd Menri Trizin Rinpoche. He later served as Dance Master for six years.
His studies continued under the guidance of His Eminence Yongdzin Lopon Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche, one of the foremost masters of the Bon tradition. Geshe la studied the Bon scriptures of Sutra, Tantra, and Dzogchen, memorizing many of the root texts through years of dedicated training. In addition to spiritual studies, he also learned Tibetan poetry, astrology, astronomy, traditional Tibetan medicine, and the sacred methods of constructing mandalas and stupas.
For fourteen years, Geshe la taught Bon Mool Shastra — the Bon root texts of Zhang Zhung — at the Central University of Tibetan Studies in Varanasi, India, sharing his knowledge with students devoted to Tibetan spiritual and cultural studies.
Today, Geshe Lungtok Tenzin Gelek continues to dedicate his life to teaching, preserving, and supporting the Bon scriptures and tradition for all who are sincerely interested in learning.
