༼ The Laughter of the Dakinis: A Chöd Teaching ༽

Dear Students and Dharma Friends,

Due to the requests of several Dharma friends, I will be offering a teaching on the Chöd practice titled “The Laughter of the Dakinis” (Khandro Geyjang), a profound text composed by the rainbow body realizer, Shardza Tashi Gyaltsen Rinpoche.

Key Points and Qualities of this Text

• Cutting the Root of Self-Grasping

The core objective of Chöd is to cut through the root of self-clinging. Shardza Rinpoche’s instructions provide a profound method to unravel the knots of worldly attachment, hopes, and fears by offering one’s cherished body as a sacred feast.

• Transforming Fear into the Path

By facing one’s fears in haunted or solitary places, this practice builds immense spiritual courage and offers the benefit of swiftly purifying karmic debts and obscurations.

• The Union of Wisdom and Compassion

This practice serves as a supreme path for the union of Method and Wisdom. By integrating the profound view of Prajna with the altruistic heart of Bodhicitta, practitioners can swiftly complete the two accumulations of merit and wisdom.

The Path of the Practice

(The Ten Sections)

In this course, we will navigate the complete landscape of the Chöd practice, following these ten essential stages from the root text:

  1. Expelling Hindrances
    Clearing the path of obstacles.

  2. Going for Refuge
Establishing the foundation of the path.

  3. Generating the Mind of Enlightenment (Bodhicitta)
Awakening the heart for all beings.

  4. Supplication Prayer
Receiving the blessings of the lineage masters.

  5. The Consciousness Raised and Liberated
The profound yoga of transferring consciousness (Phowa).

  6. The White Offering
Transforming the body into a pure feast of nectar.

  7. The Red Offering
Severing attachment by offering the physical form to the guests.

  8. Giving the Teaching
Turning the offering into a source of liberation for all spirits.

  9. The Gift of Protection
Establishing the ultimate shield of compassion.

  10. Dedication and Aspiration
Sealing the merit for the enlightenment of all beings.
